So driving back to Newtown last night, before I left Philly to get on I-95, I noticed a homeless man with a sign. I don’t know what came over me, but I made the game-time decision to give this man $5. I never do things like that ever, because I’m somehow hardwired to believe that the majority of people are trying to take advantage of whoever they can.

Since this happened at a stop light, there were a few cars parked behind me. The person in the car behind me gave the guy something, and so did the person behind THAT car.  The man was way grateful/excited.

Would those people have given to the homeless man if they didn’t see someone else do it first?  Who knows, but I’m kind of thinking that would be a “yes.”

I’m extremely stingy these days, so it’s surprising that parting with $5 actually made me feel really good.  Still does.

So being this corny is making me really uncomfortable, so I’ll leave you with some completely unrelated awesomeness:

Have a bangin’ Monday!

Yeah, you heard me. !5 miles of running. For fun. Just to see if I can. Because I still don’t have a new job and am running out of productive things to do during the day.

I’ll start in Washington Crossing (PA) running along the Delaware Canal to New Hope, then cross the bridge to Lambertville (NJ) and follow the Raritan Canal to Titusville, taking pictures the whole way as proof. Then I’ll drag my sorry ass across the bridge there back to Washington Crossing. Wish me luck, I need it. Bad.

Golden Girls reruns have been my life for years, and that slut Blanche Devereaux was one of my favorite characters on TV.  Sad and wrong.

Yay, new Arcade Fire!  Finally…I feel like it’s always a long wait for new stuff with these cats, but the wait is always worth it.  The Suburbs is their newest album and is planned for an August 2nd release.  Luckily they’re extra nice the people (like me) who find it physically impossible to wait when they hear about a great new album coming out, and released not one, but TWO fab singles.  Listen to “The Suburbs” and “Month of May” and get excited.  Woo hoo!!

The Fucking Weather

I love it, even if they are a little on the grammatically-challenged side.  Who is coming up with this incredible nonsense?  How am I not thinking of it first?  Brilliant!

Anyway, if you want to get in on this, here’s what to do:

Once I get everyone’s info, I’ll send you 5 random people who you have to make a mix for.  You can do this however you want; personalize them individually, or make the same mix for all 5 people.  Just make it good and have fun with it!

Anyway, I finally made dinner for the fam last night.  I’ve only been wanting to get into cooking for, ohhh the last MONTH.

Since I’m new at this, I went with something easy: Caribbean Sweet Potato Bean Stew, made in the Crock Pot!  Or slow cooker, if you’re not as cool as I am.

I don’t have a picture of the final product, which I feel really bad about.  I was too starved to worry about pictures at a time like dinner though.  Trust me, this stuff was goooooood.

You can make it if you want.  It was way easy.

Caribbean Sweet Potato Bean Stew

Literally, you throw everything in there, give it a stir, and turn the Crock Pot on low for 5-6 hours.  That’s it!  I recommend closer to 5 hours though, because I did 6 and the sweet potatoes were a little too mushy, almost to the point of falling apart when I put it on the plate.  I also didn’t add the almonds or put hot sauce on it…there was enough kick.

This stuff was bangin’.  Yay, I can cook!
