kp everyday

Every so often, Back to the Nest will showcase a totally bitchin’ blog that I’m totally jealous of.

Today, the very first Blog Envy honor goes to EVERYDAY | Kaleena Porter.  Kaleena is a former co-worker of mine, with a single orange pinkie nail and a serious love for great musical stylings.  Newly graduated and also back to the nest, Kaleena is a Seattle based graphic designer and html goddess, with a knack for taking white space and gorgeous photos and turning it into some serious eye candy.

If you’re in need of some graphic design commission, Kaleena comes highly recommended.  Check out the inspiration for her blog and original website Kaleena Porter | Design.

And you’re in luck, because Kaleena is throwing a rager over at EVERYDAY all week, and I can bring as many guests as I want.  Feel free to tag along, but don’t get drunk and embarrass me, because I’m not giving your punk ass a ride home. The invite below:

In 10 days, I’m running my very first Half-Marathon.  Oh snap, yo!

Half-Marathon Event Logo

The CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Half-Marathon takes place in Baltimore, MD on Saturday, October 10th.  FYI: a half-marathon is 13.1 miles, if you were wondering.  There are 7499 other participants besides me, including my good friend Molly’s boyfriend Matt who is running it at lease part way with me until he passes my sorry ass.  I’m kinda really excited for this, since I’ve only been wanting to run a half FOREVER!

I was training pretty hardcore throughout the summer, and I’ve been able to run a little over 10 miles more than half a dozen times, with 3-6 mile runs 3, 4, 0r 5 times weekly.  I’m nervous though, because my distance running has fallen a little by the wayside this past month and a half, but I haven’t stopped working out completely.  At this point, I’m too excited to be worried, although I’m sure I’ll start to panic as each day goes by.

I’ll you’ll be in the area and want to join, they still have opening for the full marathon and the 5k, but registration closes on Monday 10/5.  So register here.  Or you can just cheer me on, which is even better.  OR EVEN BETTER-you can drink beer and eat burritos with me after the race and then let me sleep on your couch, because I was planning on getting blitzed that night with Molly and Matt but they have some lame thing they have to go to right after the race, and driving 2 hours after having just run 13.1 miles sounds as much fun as a few swift kicks to the ovaries.  Trust.  Gotta go, The Office is on!!
